Anglia Crown were proud to sponsor the Care Catering Award at the Public Sector Catering Awards, held at the Hilton London Metropole recently.
The 2022 award went to Anne Dudley from Hampshire County Council. Anne received her award from Anglia Crown Director, Paul Howell and the compare for the evening, Jeremy Vine.
Anne has led the catering teams within Hampshire County Council Care since 2017 and has made a significant difference. Since being in post the 5* rating for service has gone from 67% to 100%.
There is a whole-home approach to improving hydration, with special fun drinks days to improve fluid uptake. All chefs and catering assistants are trained in the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) requirements.
Working in partnership with the property landlords and other stakeholders, the kitchens are on a long-term refurbishment programme replacing out-of-date steamers with new combi ovens and other energy saving equipment. Many kitchens are now fit for another 20-plus years of service and using new, more energy-efficient equipment will help to offset the initial costs.
Anne has continually driven food activities within the homes, encouraging them to get involved with British Food Fortnight and organising the annual inter-service Christmas Cake competition.
In addition, she has been a driving force in the National Association of Care Catering in the Southwest Region and was elected regional chair for the current year in December 2021. In October 2021 she supported the Meals on Wheels service in Hampshire, as part of the wider NACC campaign.
She has also been instrumental in putting into place processes to improve links between care and catering to ensure the right menu choices and dietary requirements are delivered to the right resident.
Recently she did a joint presentation to the local college introducing the catering students to the idea of care catering and getting them to consider it as a career choice. She has also offered work placements and taster sessions to attract new staff for the future of the service.
We, at Anglia Crown, believe that Anne is a most worthy winner. She reflects the aims and ambitions of Anglia Crown, namely, to provide those in care a meal which is both appetising and nutritionally suitable for them.
