New dishes, same commitment to quality nutrition

In her first column of 2017, Anglia Crown’s Dietitian, Ruth Smith, discusses nutritional issues for the year ahead, and shares some exciting news about her company’s latest additions to their range.

A new year is the perfect time to look ahead and take bold new steps. And 2017 is no different at Anglia Crown, as we launch five new and updated products to join our award-winning Crown Advantage range. The range, which was a finalist in the CSC Innovation awards in 2015, will now offer even greater choice, with over 40 enticing, nutritionally balanced frozen meals. They are all carefully analysed by technologists and dietitians, and developed using caterer and customer feedback.

As with all our meals, these five are designed to be highly tempting. Firstly, there’s Spanish Chicken, a flavourful mix of chicken breast strips in a smoked tomato sauce, with streaky bacon, grilled red and yellow peppers and turmeric rice. The healthy Mediterranean diet theme continues with our Mediterranean Salmon Stew. Featuring the benefits of oily fish, the salmon is combined with sweet potato, courgettes, grilled peppers and herby tomato sauce, served with basmati rice. Next we celebrate that Great British staple, Roast Beef and Gravy, served with roast potatoes, carrots and broccoli. All the beef in this dish comes from farms in the UK or Ireland. We’re also introducing a hearty Baked Macaroni Pasta in a creamy cheese sauce with wholegrain mustard, (baking creates a lovely top crust) and a smaller appetite Fish with Cheese Sauce that comes with mashed potato, carrots and parsnips.

Not only are they all rather tasty, they also reflect our usual efforts to reduce waste. Recent Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) research showed food waste was one of the principle concerns for hospital caterers. Indeed, 83% of caterers asked said it is a high priority. That’s why Crown Advantage is offered as individual meals to help mitigate this. The unique removable base packaging in the Crown Advantage range also makes the food look more appealing, so again there’s less waste, helping to reduce costs and create greater efficiency. Patient satisfaction is at the heart of our work at Anglia Crown and we were delighted to note patient satisfaction increased 10% after Crown Advantage trials at Imperial College NHS Trust.

All these products are available to order immediately with delivery from 2nd April. We will be holding a food tasting opportunity at the HCA 2017 Leadership & Development Forum, at the Europa Hotel in Belfast, on 6 and 7 April.

Ruth Smith is a Registered Dietitian and works for award-winning prepared meal manufacturer Anglia Crown. She is also secretary for the Food Services Specialist Group of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).
